As COVID-19 continues to devastate ill-prepared countries such as the United States with hopelessly ineffective leadership, much of the damage is all too obvious. Empty shelves, deserted restaurants, overflowing hospitals and crashing stock markets are but a few of the disastrous consequences of failing to keep the virus under control, as China did a few weeks ago, wowing the world with their fast and effective response. Yet still there are consequences arguably even more dire, and yet so insidious that they’ve gone largely unnoticed. One such disaster is the almost surreal drop in transgender surgeries, many of which were planned weeks or even months in advance.
As the Accredited Times covered in the (almost) complete LGBTQ+ cheat sheet, a large number of alternative sexual identities require surgery, and in many cases this surgery is best conducted during or before puberty, to mitigate the risk of wrong-sex puberty, a condition that can have life-changing consequences. Thus, acting speedily is of the essence when it comes to trans-surgery, especially when the patient has made up xis mind after countless hours of therapy and primary school education about how to come to terms with xis gender identity. In my case, I identify as non-binary, but have deliberately chosen not to go the surgery route, as I also identify as gender-fluid, and my gender could change at any moment. Others however, have set their minds on a particular gender, and for these people it’s of paramount importance that they get their surgery done ASAP before further unwanted developments in their mind and body take place. Thus, despite the admitted seriousness of the Coronavirus, we and other experts strongly disagree that transgender surgeries should be callously pushed back to free up hospital beds for COVID-19 patients, many of whom were careless, clumsy and frankly had it coming, such as the UK’s buffoonish Prime Minister, Boris Johnson.
Transgender surgeries are not some “nice-to-have” that can be carelessly dismissed as low priority in the face of a so-called medical emergency. Far from it. These are peoples’ lives we’re talking about. Coronavirus will blow over in a matter of months or a year, but the unwanted physiological changes of wrong-sex puberty could last for a lifetime, and could be near impossible to reverse. It’s time for us to act now and make our voices heard before more people in the trans community are forced to endure the horror of living in the wrong body. This isn’t just about trans people, this is about all of us. If they can do this to trans people, then they can do anything to anybody. We need to speak up now before it’s too late, and I urge all of you to contact your representatives immediately and let them know how you feel.

For once I actually disagree with Sweden’s approach, which is to just “give people the information” and let them figure out what to do. We need to shut down the ENTIRE economy because I’m SCARED, and I want EVERYBODY ELSE to be SAFE!

Agreed. An there are _still_ people who put everybody at risk with their reckless behavior. Just yesterday I watched from my window and saw two young children who were playing in their backyard without respecting the mandatory social distancing! As a good citizen I immediately called the police to report them, but they told me to relax as 22 other people nearby had already report them. Fortunately the cops arrived just on time to see their irresponsible mother running toward them to grab them BY THE HAND in order to pull them inside! She was immediately handcuffed and brought at the police station, we were all cheering from our windows!

This article is SO important. I can’t tell you just how AFRAID I am right this minute. Every 60 seconds I check myself to assess if I have any of the symptoms of Covid-19. Is my cough more dry than normal? When I bark at the (nearly) full moon, is it with less lung capacity than normal? Can I properly taste the dried biscuits I eat for breakfast?
