Just under a week ago, Russia’s fascist government, led by brutal, nationalist dictator Vladimir Putin, consecrated a new, mind-blowingly expensive cathedral, built in a manner far-separated from the modern masterpieces we’ve come to expect from forward-thinking, politically-sensitive architects, who believe in ideals like “fairness”, “diversity”, “tolerance” and “equality”. Instead, this cathedral has been constructed in a style more similar to what you would have typically found in Europe during the times of monarchy, when European countries were still believed to be somehow “European”, rather than multicultural, global and diverse, and when people valued concrete things like “beauty”, “discovery”, “exploration”, “conquest”, and European “art”, “music”, “literature” and “theatre” instead of just abstract ideals. Below is some video footage of this over-indulgent monstrosity:
What’s even more shocking is that billions of Rubles in funding for this extravagant project purportedly came from the tax-payer, in the midst of the coronavirus. If anything, this money should have been spent on treating the presumably widespread respiratory complications caused by the Russians’ irresponsible use of the now FDA-unapproved hydroxychloroquine, which many tout as the reason for Russia’s extremely low death rate. That any country can even begin to find room in their budget for such opulence in this day and age is absolutely shocking. Between donating money to Israel, immigrants on welfare, welfare moms with ten illegitimate kids, developing countries like India with their own space programs, and fighting endless proxy wars in the Middle East, there clearly isn’t any money left over for unimportant and frankly ugly projects like this.
As Pbier covered previously at the Accredited Times, modern architecture is just as beautiful, if not more so, than Gothic or renaissance architecture, and can be constructed at a fraction of the cost. What’s more, because it’s cheaper and simpler, it’s more effective at achieving utilitarian goals, such as producing more stuff and higher GDP, which is more important than beauty. Lastly, this project is unapologetically “European” in its design, which is wholly inappropriate given that we live in a time where all European monuments are under scrutiny for their potential to symbolise racism and oppression. This cathedral is very controversial, and simply re-iterates why we should be thankful to live under modern, forward-thinking, liberal and common-sense democracies, rather than harsh, brutal nationalist regimes like Russia’s. Shame on you Russia – this project is both racist and unnecessary, and really shows your disdain for the people who really need that money. Why not hire a modern architect next time and get something equally good for a mere fraction of the cost?

you need to know you're echoing Trump who, according to Bolton's book, complained about NATO's new $billion headquarters building, the funds for which should have been spent on tanks for attacking Russia.

One Russian tank could take out this HQ, obviously designed by female engineers proof of which is its resemblance to criss-crossing tampons.
Well I don't see why NATO shouldn't get a fancy new building, especially if Russia gets to have one. It's ironic that Trump is complaining about that, because if you think about it, he's the one threatening their funding, at a time when we need them more than ever.

That's a completely sensible way of dealing this this issue, I agree. This is the approach generally taken in South Africa, where instead of simply destroying something that was built under the white regime, they simply rename it to something African. I can definitely see a strong argument for this approach.

Agreed - R needs to be zero and stay that way for at least a few months before I even THINK of going outside. Of course Pbier - the remote work is here to stay for as long as it's needed, even if that's forever. We need to do whatever it takes.
Well that’s in line with my thinking. This whole lockdown business has caused me to look again at the serious issue of risk. Basically, if there is even the slightest risk attached to ANYTHING, I think total avoidance is necessary, not only for myself but also for the entire global population, in order to protect them.
Right now, I see zero reason to take a single step out of my oxygen tent. It’s a dangerous world out there.
