Wilder vs Fury 2 – Did Tyson Fury Cheat?

After Tyson Fury’s devastating and decisive defeat of African American boxer Deontay Wilder, numerous Wilder fans, mostly people of color, have speculated that Tyson Fury may have cheated after all, and should consequently be stripped of all of his heavyweights titles and go down in history as a disgrace to boxing. Here are some of the highlights of the brutal fight:

The allegations against Fury are threefold, but Wilder fans seem to coming up with new ones every week. The current top three reasons for why Tyson Fury didn’t in fact beat Wilder are as follows:

  1. Tyson used “weighted gloves”
  2. Wilder’s Wakandan black panther costume was too heavy
  3. Tyson took steroids

Now let’s consider each of these hypotheses very seriously. The accusation that Tyson used weighted gloves is backed up by two solid pieces of evidence. The first is that Tyson’s wrists appear to be bent at a large angle during many of his punches, almost as if he was hitting them with a “bag” of some sort. The second piece of evidence, picked up by a very astute African American, is that Tyson seems kind of nervous when the referee tries to touch his glove.

Much of this footage, as many smart Alecks have pointed out, is actually from the first Fury Wilder fight, which was a draw, but this is because Tyson cheated during both fights.

Since then, many so-called “boxing experts” have tried to dispel this hypothesis, supposedly demonstrating that you can’t actually bend your wrists at all when they’re further down the glove, and that the gloves are handed to the fighters by the organisation and independently verified by multiple experts. But this hasn’t phased Wilder fans one bit.

Now let’s consider Wilder’s Wakandan kang costume which he wore to celebrate black history month. Wilder claims that he lost the fight because the suit was too heavy, and drained his energy before the fight, causing him to lose his balance. Critics have facetiously pointed out that Wilder trains in a weighted vest, and that he only started losing balance after Fury delivered a legal punch that appeared to have burst his eardrum. But this hasn’t satisfied Wilder fans, who can smell a rat from a mile away.

The final accusation is that Fury was taking steroids. Although there isn’t any solid evidence for this one, many have speculated that he might be ok steroids judging by his suspiciously good performance during the fight.

All in all, I think it’s safe to say that Fury cheated in some way, even if we’re not sure exactly how. If the racist boxing organisations had any sense, they’d launch a full-on investigation into Tyson’s possible wrongdoing, but as we all know, we live in an institutionally racist system, so the chances of this are unfortunately slim.
